During training for my first marathon I had no clue what I was doing. I followed a beginner training plan from a local running store with two short mid week runs and one long weekend run. I was able to finish the race, however, it was not pretty. I really struggled and left the race feeling defeated.

Coach Stephanie set up a training plan for me. My first marathon finish was 4:37 and this time I was shooting for 4 hours at the Marine Corps Marathon.  I filled out an in depth questionnaire about my current fitness level, base mileage, previous injuries, vacations planned during training, and any races that I was signed up for that would occur during training. Stephanie hooked me up with a fantastic plan consisting of a cross training day, speedwork, mid week runs, and a long weekend run.

I followed it to a T. I had one race during training, a 20 miler, that I PR'd  by 20 minutes!  Going into the marathon I felt prepared and strong.  During the marathon I felt better than the first time around.  I ran the entire race,  no walking, and finished in 4:00:54–almost a 37 minute PR!  I could not believe it!  Spending a little money on the training plan was worth every penny. Now, onto the next marathon, and hopefully a sub 4 finish!
